Hong Kong air carrier Cathay Pacific Airways said on Monday that it would initiate the recruitment of cabin crew members from the Chinese mainland in July and expand the scope of Mandarin language services, along with enhancing the training of Cathay Pacific"s service culture.
Three crew were fired in May over discrimination against mandarin speaking passengers.
Ronald Lam, CEO of Cathay Pacific, said the company will prioritize recruiting Mandarin-speaking cabin crew members on flights to and from the mainland, gradually expanding to other flights, and ensuring that all round-trip flights to and from the mainland will have Mandarin-language cabin announcements starting from August.
Lam said the name tags of cabin crew members will clearly indicate the languages they are able to provide service. If they are able to use more than one Asian language, they will receive an additional allowance each month.
